the 20/21 l.A.R. Resident artist
2020 has been a long year, and the world is in flux. As was the case with many cultural programs around the globe, L.A.R. was also affected by the global pandemic crisis. We were forced to postpone our Summer Program and cancel our Fall/Winter schedule. Neverthless, we are planning to move forward and it is with great pleasure that we can announce that Assaf Hinden was selected as the winner of the Lucy Art Residency 20/21 from over 300 applications to our Open Call! We are looking forward to hosting him in Kavala in May/June 2021, together with all the other invited guests for the Residency and Public Program of L.A.R.
Assaf Hinden (b.1988) based in Tel Aviv and Antwerp, graduated with honors from The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (Jerusalem, 2016) and The University of Fine Arts in Hamburg (HFBK). His mixed media practice, focusing on photography, video and installations repeatedly explores different elements from the past which comment on a contemporary unstable present. The photography works re-examine selected objects and recomposing them into a new and different function, while reflecting upon the photographic act which lies between documentation, preservation and presentation. Shortly after graduating, Hinden participated in an artist residency in Spain where he also presented his first solo exhibition Remodeling at WTA Gallery, Barcelona. In 2018, Hinden exhibited his second solo show entitled Relative Humidity at Artspace TLV. Among the numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, Hinden participated in Madrid’s art week (2019), Function.Anomy at Rathaus-Galerie Reinickendorf(Berlin, 2019), Fresh Paint Art Fair (2018) and displayed his work in different institutions such as Viktoria Kaserne (Hamburg), Braverman Gallery (TLV) and Art Cube Artists’-Studios (Jerusalem). In addition, Hinden has also curated several projects and exhibitions such as Talking Bones (2017), No Rainbows Without Rain (2019) & Last Call (2020).
